Donation Bag Information and Items to Bring to the Macchi School
COPA weight limit is 50 pounds per bag. We will each check in two bags. The first bag has no additional cost. This bag is filled with our own items while the second should be filled with donated items. Each passenger will have to pay $70 to check the second bag. The actual donation suitcase will be returned to the student for the return to the USA. Ideally, this second suitcase should fit in the first suitcase on the way back to avoid paying another $70 on the return flight. We will need around 20 team members to take down computers and Team Tobati t-shirts instead of donated items. These team members will only need to produce an empty suitcase which will be filled up by the computer or t-shirts. Used warm weather clothes, used caps, and used sneakers are great things to pack in the second bag if you aren't taking computers or team t-shirts. Below is a letter from Ariel Gonzalez (vice director at the Macchi School) highlighting some other potential items to bring in your donation bag.
Dear KO friends:
I hope you are all doing well. My name is Ariel González, I am the general coordinator of the Macchi School. Also, I am the not-so-funny guy during the March Trip, please bear with me. I am writing to you on behalf of all the students and teachers. We are very excited to meet you and enjoy a fun time during your stay in Paraguay. We are grateful for the opportunity of finally being able to work with Team Tobati again. Since we haven´t had the chance in the past three years, we would love to do everything possible to start new and stronger ties among our schools. In case you are able to make some extra donations, besides your time and lots of energy you are sharing with us, we will be immensely happy and grateful for:
Some art supplies: we would like the kids to explore all possible opportunities to develop their talents. If they have the right tools, they could make masterpieces. Art is a form of walking away from the ordinary to create something extraordinary. These are some necessary and new materials they could use:
Some English language books: It doesn’t sound like I am asking for candy or toys, not fun at all! But, smart kids could one day create their own candies and toys! And SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY. Anyways, we would like to improve our English curriculum. We are hoping to build our stockpile of our textbooks of the AMERICAN HEADWAY series. Our teachers will greatly appreciate it if we could help them obtain twenty copies the first level of these books. They are a little bit expensive here and not all the bookstores sell them. Please let Mr. Garcia know if you purchase copies of the book and how many.
Seeds for the garden: We have almost 100 kids eating lunch at school, and they love fresh veggies and fruits. Please help us grow our own organic goods.
These are just some of the primary things we constantly need at school. All donations are welcome, feel free to add other varieties, colors, elements, anything and everything counts.
Looking forward to meeting you,
Take care,
Arielito.

Some art supplies: we would like the kids to explore all possible opportunities to develop their talents. If they have the right tools, they could make masterpieces. Art is a form of walking away from the ordinary to create something extraordinary. These are some necessary and new materials they could use:
- Paint brushes
- All colors of paint
- Colored paper
- Regular pencils and colored pencils
- Markers for fabric
- Highlighters or sharpies
- Sticky Notes (all shapes, sizes, and colors are welcome)
Some English language books: It doesn’t sound like I am asking for candy or toys, not fun at all! But, smart kids could one day create their own candies and toys! And SPEAK ENGLISH FLUENTLY. Seeds for the garden: We have almost 100 kids eating lunch at school, and they love fresh veggies and fruits. Please help us grow our own organic goods.
- Tomatoes: we usually grow Plum tomatoes, Roma, Beefsteak, or Brandywine because of fruit size and we need them mostly for sandwiches and salads.
- Peppers: more suitable for our school garden are bell pepper, Anaheim, and sweet banana pepper. Just go easy on the spicy varieties, students don´t eat a lot of spicy food here.
- Onions: any green onion and red, sweet, or yellow root onion.
- Lettuces: we mostly grow and consume big green leafy lettuces, romaine and iceberg are very suitable. If possible, we would also love to grow some purple ones.
- Carrots: Nantes, Danvers, Imperator, sounds like big roots.
- Green or yellow summer squash, and eggplants also go to the menu once in a while.
- Watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe. They are very tasty and refreshing, especially during the summer heat.
These are just some of the primary things we constantly need at school. All donations are welcome, feel free to add other varieties, colors, elements, anything and everything counts.
Looking forward to meeting you,
