A Journey Filled with Light, Friendship, and Hope
Team Tobati’s March 2026 Service Learning Trip to Tobati, Paraguay marked the 26th Kingswood Oxford journey and shone as one of the most joyful and meaningful chapters yet. For eight unforgettable days, students and faculty stepped into a vibrant community where hard work, laughter, and genuine connection transformed both hearts and landscapes.
Every morning the team gathered with energy and purpose, then headed out alongside Macchi School partners into the 21 villages of Tobati. Together they poured their strength into projects that left lasting marks of care: a new roof over the 8th and 9th grade classrooms, a fresh wire fence and painted foundation at the Macchi School, a new room at the artisan school in Rosado, an outdoor patio at San Rafael School, and improved gardens with a sturdy brick border. Classrooms received new desks, chairs, and air conditioning. Trails were cleared, benches painted, and soccer fields brought to life with play and laughter. Toothbrushes and soccer balls found their way into the hands of children across the district, small gifts that carried big smiles.
Beyond the construction and supplies, the true magic lived in the everyday moments of shared life. Team members stayed with warm host families, cooked traditional Paraguayan meals, learned Guaraní phrases, and practiced vibrant dances late into the afternoon. They visited student homes, worked side by side at brick factories and pottery workshops, carved wood in Rosado, and hiked the Tobatí hills under bright skies. Evenings glowed with kermés festivals, sports at Don Cabri, Paraguayan Night performances, and the dazzling Noche de Estrellas dance competition. On the final full day the group celebrated with a trip to the Villa Artesanal, a cascading waterfall, and a joyful pool party before gathering one last time for a heartfelt farewell at the Macchi School.
What remains longest is the light that grew between people. American and Paraguayan students became teammates, dance partners, and true friends. They discovered that working with open hands and open hearts creates something far greater than any single project. They returned home carrying new confidence, deeper empathy, and the living proof that todo es posible cuando actuamos con el corazón — everything is possible when we act with heart.
