Team
Tobatí 2008 will be working daily on the following projects and programs during
our March community service trip to Tobatí, Paraguay. If you are
interested in sponsoring or contributing towards one of the projects, please
contact Ronald Garcia at garcia@teamtobati.org.
· The construction of a
new classroom and the beginning of a major expansion to the Reinaldo Macchi
School, the private school for talented and disadvantaged students built and
100% funded by Team Tobatí. This revolutionary institution founded by and run
by Kingswood-Oxford graduates offers a truly top notch college preparation
education, 3 meals a day, and free healthcare to an extremely smart and
motivated group of students from poor families throughout the department of
Tobatí, Paraguay. $30,000
· The payment of
Doctors and nurses at Tobatí's medical clinic. The team 100% funds the payment
of pediatricians, other doctors, and nurses at the public clinic. This
assistance allows the clinic to serves thousands of poor patients who otherwise
would not have access to doctors. - $19,000
· The construction of a
new classroom at Escuela Básica #6448 in the extremely poor San José Obrero
neighborhood just outside central Tobatí. This is a neighborhood formed around
a few large brick factories. This is a school that was constructed by Team Tobatí
in 2003 so that the poor of the children of the brick workers wouldn't have to
walk over a half hour across the Tobatí River in order to get to their grade
school. This trip was at times dangerous for the young children. This school
currently contains 3 classrooms, a bathroom, and an outside corridor, each of
which was build and funded by different Team Tobatí service trips. This school
and this neighborhood are very special to Team Tobatí due to the contagious
energy and warmth of the children and the dedication and quiet integrity of
their parents. The classroom to be built in March 2008 will allow the school to
add two additional grades. $7,000
· Major renovations to
the stage and performance area at Colegio Nacional Domingo Martinez (one of
Tobatí's two public high schools). Team Tobatí will fund and construct a new
roof, a refurbished floor, and paint walls in order to make the stage both safe
to use and esthetically rejuvenated. The CONADOMI courtyard is the only stage
in the town of Tobatí that the public can use for performances. $3,000
· The construction of a
sidewalk on Mariscal Escarribia & 14 de Mayo Street within central Tobatí
behind Pedro Juan Caballero high school (Tobatí's other public high school).
This stretch of sidewalk will attach to the one block of sidewalk constructed
by Team Tobatí 2007 and another constructed by Team Tobatí 2006 to form a
completely sidewalked path surrounding the high school. This will allow the
school to more easily maintain a clean environment and also make it easier for
the people of the town to walk around. $3,000
· Renovations both
inside and outside el Hospital Distrital Tobatí (Tobatí's public medical
clinic). Team Tobatí 2008 will be putting up tiles on the walls inside the
clinic, which currently are in very bad shape. The team will also be painting
the outside of the clinic, which also is in desperate need of repainting. Team
Tobatí has worked on 3 separate major constructions at this clinic in the past
ten years, which have added an additional 12 rooms to the clinic and more than
quadrupled its size. The team also provides funding for pediatricians and gynecologists
to come from Asunción throughout the year to treat poor patients. $3,500
· The construction of a
sidewalk in front of Escuela Maestra Patricia, a small grade school just
outside of Tobatí. Escuela Maestra Patricia is currently the grade school that
has sent the most students to the team's Reinaldo Macchi School. Their students
have scored best on the standardized test used as part of the Macchi school
application process and have excelled at the Macchi school. Team Tobatí has in
the past constructed a kitchen and a classroom at Escuela Maestra Patricia.
$2,000
· The beginning of the
construction of a new school in the poor San Rafael neighborhood in the rural
village of 21 de Julio, Tobatí. Team Tobatí 2008 will be constructing the first
classroom of this school in order for the village to have a first grade. The
village currently is forced to send their children over 40 minutes away to a
neighboring village in order to attend grade school. Team Tobatí will
completely support this institution in the same way that it has supported the
San José Obrero School by constructing new classrooms each year in order to
allow the school to grow into a full grade school. $7,000
· The team will paint
and clean the beautiful children's park in the lovely church plaza in Central
Tobatí. The team constructed this park years ago is committed to maintaining
its beauty and safety. Hundreds of children play at this park each week. One
can never pass by the plaza without seeing dozens of children enjoying the
park. $1,000
· The team will paint
and expand the children's park next to the Macchi School. This park constructed
by Team Tobatí 2007 provides a safe place to play for hundreds of children in
the surrounding neighborhoods. $1,000
· Puesto de Salud 21 de
Julio - The team will work on the construction of a medical outpost in the poor
rural village of 21 de Julio, Tobatí. This outpost will serve as a location for
doctors and nurses to treat patients during the week and also as a place for
people to go to seek medical treatment. $7,000
· Costa Alegre - The
construction of a classroom in the poor rural village of Costa Alegre, Tobatí.
The construction of this classroom will allow the school to add an eighth
grade. This will allow students to attend a school near their home for an
additional year. Previously, after the sixth grade, the students were forced to
walk over 50 minutes to a neighboring village in order to continue their
schooling. Most of the students went into work at this point. This classroom
will allow more students to continue their education. $7,000

students to continue their education. $7,000
· The team will
construct a stone and cement fence to surround the grade school in the poor
rural village of Santa Rosalía, Tobatí. This fence will prevent cows, dogs, and
other unwanted visitors from entering the school's grounds. $2,500
· The team will
construct a multiuse floor/patio outside the grade school in the poor rural
village of 21 de Julio, Tobatí. $1,500
· Parochial Home - The complete
repainting on the Parochial Home in central Tobatí. This housing complex serves
as a retreat for young men studying to become priests. $1,000
· The widening and
revamping of an old classroom at Escuela #44 Pedro Juan Caballero in Central
Tobatí. This is the largest grade school in Tobatí serving over 600 students.
$2,000
· The team will
distribute soccer balls and toothbrushes to every grade school in the
department of Tobatí. Every school will be visited by team members who will
also distribute important medical pamphlets and talk with the students about
health education. - $3,000
· The team will work at
a series of small brick and tile factories alongside Paraguayan workers
throughout the department of Tobatí. The construction of bricks is the main
source of work in the department of Tobatí. The majority of men and boys in the
region work in the factories earning between $1 and $3 per day. Team Tobatí
